However there is a White House official says the Biden administration isn’t going to push for such a program, since it’s difficult to implement and requires Congressional approval. The federal government has not come up with the Gas Rebate act that will take effect in 2022. However, it is looking into such a plan, and some states and cities have already adopted legislation in support of it. These rebates are intended be used to assist consumers in coping with the increase in costs. Though they are not federal programs, many of these rebates are provided to state governments through surpluses. The federal government should consider such a plan as an effective method to tackle the high prices of fuel and other items.
A few states have tried to lower their gas taxes and are considering offering cash back to citizens. Some states, like New York, are considering suspending the gas tax altogether or offering a small discount. Governor Bloomberg has also proposed tax relief for renters and homeowners who pay their gas taxes in excess of what the Federal minimum. He even has proposed cutting the tax on gas by fifty percent when the median price of non-leaded fuel reaches $4.51 per gallon in summer. Certain political leaders from New York state have also advocated for the removal of the state gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in every state.
While the federal government is not looking to roll out any kind of stimulus package states’ lawmakers and President Biden have presented a variety proposals for consumers. This includes a three-month discount on gasoline taxes. As of the end of June, nothing concrete is being debated by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates start to be offered in all states. Although the President has been able to propose to extend a national gas tax holiday however, he hasn’t found an appropriate legislation to pay for the holiday.

Whatever the political stance of the concept that gas rebate cards can be one of the many tools to help Americans pay for the cost of gasoline. However, they have already had to face some opposition. Just two months ago House Democratic counsel panned the program, claiming that it could cause inflation, was costly, and wasn’t properly targeted. The plan was first announced by higher-up White House aides raised concerns about the rebate cards because there was a shortage of microchips.
