Certain states have attempted to cut their gas taxes and are considering offering cash back to citizens. Some states, including New York, are considering abstaining from the gas tax altogether or offering a small discount. Governor New York has also proposed tax relief for renters and homeowners who pay their gas taxes at or above an amount that is higher than the federal minimum. The governor has even suggested reducing the gas tax by 50 percent when the average price of unleaded gasoline reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Some politicians in New York state have also agreed to suspend the state’s gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in all states.
Although the federal government is not intending to implement any type of stimulus plan as of yet, state lawmakers and president Biden has proposed a variety of solutions for consumers. This includes a three-month gas tax holiday. But as of late June it is unclear what is being examined by Congress. It could be a while before gas rebates start to roll out in every state. While the President has proposed an annual gas tax holiday across the country however, he’s not been able to come up with any law that would allow him to fund it.

Whatever the political stance of the idea it is among the many options to assist Americans deal with the expense of gasoline. But, they’ve already met with some resistance.
