The federal government hasn’t taken up the Gas Rebate Bill of 2022 , however they are considering the idea and some states and cities have already enacted legislation for it. The purpose of these rebates is to assist citizens in coping price increases. Although not a program of the federal government most of these rebates are offered through state governments who have surplus funds. The federal government should think about such a plan as a feasible way for tackling the current high price of gasoline and other commodities.
Certain states have attempted at reducing their gas taxes and are looking into offering the residents of those states with refunds. Some states, including New York, are considering cutting the gas taxes completely or offering a rebate. Governor Cuomo also has proposed tax reductions for renters, as well as homeowners who are paying gas taxes at or above an amount that is higher than the federal minimum.
